I Know Where You Live!
“I know where you live!” Those words are sometimes said in a joking manner to convey, “If you pull that trick on me, I know where I can find you.” The expression has also been seriously used as somewhat of a threat to mean “If you don’t follow through I will come looking for you where you live and we’ll resolve the matter there and then!” There may be some people whom we don’t want to know where we live either because they could be a threat to us or become a nuisance. Then there are those whom we appreciate they do know where we live and WELCOME THEIR CONNECTION with us at any time.
Though there were some in the church in Pergamum who were holding to teachings other than the truth of God ( Revelation 2:14-15) and needed to repent for it ( Revelation 2:16), note how the message of the Lord to this church began.
“I KNOW WHERE YOU DWELL, where Satan’s throne is. YET YOU HOLD FAST MY NAME, AND YOU DID NOT DENY YOUR FAITH IN ME even in the days of Antipas my faithful witness, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells.” ( Revelation 2:13 ESV)
The encouragement for these Christians was that there was awareness in Heaven of the circumstances that challenged them where they lived, but also of their faithfulness in the midst of those trials. Even in the face of one among them being killed, they held steadfast to the NAME OF THE LORD and did not deny their faith.
Perhaps we think the immorality and wickedness where we live is bad, but consider living in a place described as being “where Satan’s throne is.” If this reference to “Satan’s throne” and his dwelling being there refers to the temple dedicated to the Roman Emperor Caesar that had been erected in Pergamum (also known as Pergamos) there would have been the demand to refer to Caesar as Lord. However, these Christians held fast to the NAME OF THE LORD and would have only been willing to say that JESUS IS LORD. Such would have created a real test for them, one these spoken of here were apparently passing.
Yes, the Lord knows where we live and is fully aware of what goes on around us. He is also aware of how seriously we consider His LORDSHIP in our life. May we be encouraged that no matter what might be going on around us, as we continue to allow JESUS TO BE LORD of our life, His desire is to ultimately bring us to eternally live with Him. (note John 14:3) Like those at Pergamum, let us also hold fast to His Name.
Have a great day WELCOMING A STEADFAST CONNECTION WITH JESUS!
