Wake Up! (part 2 of 2)
Yesterday we considered Ephesians 5:11-14 and how the world is in need of waking up to the fact there is absolute truth to be acknowledged. Even though we believe in God and acknowledge the authority of His Word, is there still perhaps the need for us to wipe some worldly sleep out of our eyes in order to focus and see all things as we should? Jesus referred to the eye as “the lamp of the body” which when healthy will fill the body with light. ( Matthew 6:22) What the eye is taking in is going to impact what will be reflected in the life.
In the previous verses Paul exhorted…
“(6) Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. (7) Therefore do not associate with them; (8) for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. WALK AS CHILDREN OF LIGHT (9) (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), (10) and try to DISCERN WHAT IS PLEASING TO THE LORD. (11) Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but INSTEAD EXPOSE them.” ( Ephesians 5:6-11 ESV)
If we don’t see as we ought we cannot shine as we ought! Having been called to walk as CHILDREN OF LIGHT, the FRUIT OF LIGHT -- that which is “good and right and true” -- is to be evident in our life. Does our CONDUCT shed light on how life is to be lived to please God? The Light of Christ in our life has the power to expose. That’s what light does: shines and exposes. It is the natural effect of light. May we retain His light within so that those around us can be impacted by the FRUIT OF LIGHT shining brightly through the world’s darkness. Such living will help others to see as they ought.
Have a great day LIVING TO LIGHT THE WAY OF LIFE!
