New Truth?

Noting again the passage we read yesterday…
“(7) Beloved, I am writing you NO NEW commandment, but AN OLD commandment that you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word that you have heard. (8) AT THE SAME TIME, IT IS A NEW COMMANDMENT that I am writing to you, which is true in him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining.” ( 1 John 2:7-8 ESV)

OLD command or NEW command?

“NEW” and “OLD” are sometimes relative terms. When we bought our Plymouth reliant several years ago (a car we have since replaced) we said we had a new car. However, it was a used car. But it was new to us and definitely newer than the one we had been driving.

On the other hand, TRUTH remains TRUTH! There are times people have thought they have found new truth in their study of the Scriptures, when really all that is new is the understanding, acceptance or impact that it brings to the believer. That truth was always there and God rejoices when we finally catch on. We say “Eureka” and God says, “It’s about time you saw it.” John went on to exhort toward the kind of love we ought to have for one another; a godly love that has the power to bring refreshment and renewal to relationships.

May we always approach God’s word with OPEN EYES AND OPEN HEART. His message is there. It continues to stand the test of time. It is still relevant for life today.

Have a great day CATCHING GOD’S MESSAGE!
