Living Billboards!
Messages, messages, everywhere. Advertisements and announcements on big billboards and neon signs. Messages displayed on the tops of taxi-cabs and the sides of city buses. Messages scrawled across T-shirts and other articles of clothing. Messages somebody wants to be seen! Is there any escape from it all?
John wrote:
“(7) Beloved, I am writing you no new commandment, but an old commandment that you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word that you have heard. (8) At the same time, it is a new commandment that I am writing to you, WHICH IS TRUE IN HIM AND IN YOU, because the darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining.” ( 1 John 2:7-8 ESV)
Truth is something we can see through various means. Truth is found by reading and studying, by experimenting, by listening to others, etc. But a powerful means of CONVEYING TRUTH is by LIVING IT and John noted that the truth of the message was alive and evident in the lives of those to whom he was writing.
Jesus came as the Word in the flesh ( John 1:1-2,14). He even referred to Himself as “Truth” ( John 14:6) and displayed complete consistency between His teaching and His life. It has been stated: “I would rather see a sermon than hear one any day!” Truth, MODELED IN OUR LIFE, is a powerful teacher and method of CONVEYING GOD’S MESSAGE.
Our aim ought to be that just as God’s truth was seen in Jesus, it will also be seen in our life. Have you ever considered your life being a sort of “Living Billboard” for God’s message? In a very real sense it ought to be.
Have a great day DISPLAYING GOD’S TRUTH!
Carl
