GoodThings!

There are many good things we experience in this life. Some of those we live in anticipation of while others just happen. These good things uplift us when our spirits might have become discouraged and provide a sense of renewed HOPE that helps us press on. As we consider the good things we experience perhaps the statement comes to mind that has been expressed again and again that “All good things must come to an end.” For some people that acknowledgement takes some of the joy out of the good things of life even as they are in the midst of them because they are saddened that they will not last. Many of the good things we experience in this life are not ongoing. We enjoy events, gatherings, and activities of varying sorts that dot our calendars and those moments come and go. However, it is NOT TRUE THAT ALL good things must come to an end.

Paul encouraged the church at Thessalonica with these words:
“(16) Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us ETERNAL COMFORT AND GOOD HOPE through grace, (17) comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word.” ( 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 ESV)

Here Paul mentioned two good things that do not end. One is ETERNAL COMFORT [other translations have “encouragement” (NIV) or “consolation” (NKJV)]. The second is GOOD HOPE that transcends this life (note 1 Corinthians 15:19) to be fully realized in the eternity of heaven.

We may experience a twinge of sadness with regard to the ending of some good things in this life. However, when we do, let us remember the grand things that are eternal according to the promises of God. Because our God is eternal what He holds in store for us will not come to an end and because of our eternal Savior we have the “good hope” of everlasting life. May we begin experiencing now the ETERNAL COMFORT of life in Him.

Have a great day ENCOURAGED BY THE THINGS THAT WILL NEVER END!
