Get Out Of The Way!

Sometimes while my wife and I are in our small kitchen together she will ask me, “Am I in YOUR way?” Other times she will ask, “Are you in MY way?” A fact of life is there will be times when people will get in our way and other times when we will be in theirs. Then there are times when our greatest challenge in life might be that of ourselves getting in our own way. There is a sense in which we need to get out of the way to get IN THE WAY.

In Acts we read the following term in reference to the church.
“(1) But Saul, still breathing threats and murder against THE DISCIPLES OF THE LORD, went to the high priest (2) and asked him for letters to the synagogues at Damascus, so that if he found any BELONGING TO THE WAY, men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.” ( Acts 9:1-2)

We find that designation used also in Acts 19:9 and 23, as well as in Acts 24:14 and 22, and it appears to have been one of the earliest references to emerge in referring to the followers of Jesus. How fitting when we understand that Jesus referred to Himself as “THE WAY” ( John 14:6) and if we are in Him then we are in THE WAY. However, in order to be His disciple there is the need to get self out of the way ( Matthew 16:24) so that we can be IN THE WAY. May we not allow even ourselves to come between us and the Lord.

Have a great day BEING IN THE WAY!
Carl
