Extreme Makeover!
Some people view their body as a temple. “Well, isn’t it?”, you might ask! The scriptures tell us our body is “a temple of the Holy Spirit” ( 1 Corinthians 6:19) and we are to “glorify God” in it. ( 1 Corinthians 6:20) However, the perspective I’m referring to is what can become an overemphasis on the physical to the point of almost worshipping the body. Certainly there is nothing wrong with taking care of the body; trying to keep it FIT and maintaining a well groomed appearance. The problem is that there is often an overemphasis on the body without due consideration of what is of lasting significance. We might all agree that some extreme makeovers have gone too extreme. There is the utmost need to consider how FIT the inner-self is because that is the aspect of our being that will transcend this realm.
Remember Paul’s exhortation to Timothy when he wrote…
“(7) Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths. Rather TRAIN YOURSELF FOR GODLINESS; (8) for while BODILY TRAINING IS OF SOME VALUE, GODLINESS IS OF VALUE IN EVERY WAY, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.” ( 1 Timothy 4:7-8 ESV)
It is the “NEW YOU” in Christ ( 2 Corinthians 5:17; Colossians 3:10) that cannot be overemphasized. The day will come when that which is of dust will return to the earth, but the spirit will return to God who gave it. ( Ecclesiastes 12:7) May we take care of the body in a way that reveals our appreciation for what God has created, but above all be sure we are remaining SPIRITUALLY FIT. Therein lies the benefit for both this life and the life to come. Let us be sure we are becoming FIT for the Heavenly life!
Have a great day GLORIFYING GOD WITH OUR ENTIRE BEING!
