Twenty-Four Seven!
Some things cannot be scheduled, they just happen. There are activities of life that cannot be marked on the calendar even though they might be very important events. However, we need to be prepared in mind and spirit when they arise. To what am I referring? OPPORTUNITIES! Someone has said, “Opportunity is no respecter of office hours; always be on the job.” [source: sentence sermons]
OPPORTUNITIES pop up around the clock. They can spring up suddenly at unexpected times and in unexpected places. How prepared or willing are we to seize them when they arise? How alert are we to the times when OPPORTUNITY crosses our path? Recently as my wife and I were shopping in one of our local grocery stores, she saw one of her co-workers who appeared to be upset. Coming to understand the news she had just received by cell phone, we took the OPPORTUNITY right then and there to pray with her. It is what she needed at the time and so we were willing to offer the assistance in the moment. Sometimes we don’t know how far reaching the impact a moment’s action might be when we use the OPPORTUNITIES set before us.
Paul urged the Galatians…
“(9) And let us NOT GROW WEARY OF DOING GOOD, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. (10) So then, AS WE HAVE OPPORTUNITY, LET US DO GOOD TO EVERYONE, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.” ( Galatians 6:9-10 ESV)
The Greek translated “OPPORTUNITY” points to a fixed or definite period, but also conveys the idea of a “seasonable time”. Perhaps we should think of OPPORTUNITIES as moments in season and ripe for the picking with wonderful fruit that can be enjoyed. May we remain ready and willing to take advantage of them in the name of Jesus.
Have a great day READY TO SERVE AT A MOMENTS NOTICE!
Carl
