Safety Barrier!

We recently had some strong winds and snow in our area. Following these strong winds I noticed a barricade placed alongside a road I frequently travel either by car or foot. I could not see, however, why there was a need for caution. There was no hole in the pavement. No wires were hanging to the ground. No tree or other debris had fallen to block the way. It was not until the next day as I walked along the other side of the road that I noticed the danger that existed. Up in a tall tree was a huge branch -- broken and hanging precariously -- a branch that should it fall could either cause serious injury to someone walking by or damage to a vehicle that might be parked beneath.

Safety barriers! Barricades! Warning signs of danger in the area. Often we can look over or beyond those barriers and see what the danger is and why we should keep our distance. Though the danger is not always easily seen, the barriers have been put in place by those who know the danger exists and have done so for our PROTECTION. The problem is that those signs are too often ignored. Frequently signs warning of water over the roadway have gone unheeded because the danger did not look bad. Drivers have decided to drive through anyway, only to find the water was actually deeper than it appeared. The safety barrier that was placed for a reason should have been obeyed.

The way some live their lives in general is not much different. God has given us His commands and standard for life, drawing the line between right and wrong as a safety barrier (a boundary) to PROTECT us. Nevertheless some look across the line and fail to see any danger, so they cross over anyway. Others may look over the boundary and see what the caution is about, but decide it doesn’t look that bad so they cross over only to soon find themselves in deeper than they imagined.

In the wisdom of Proverbs we read…
“(5) EVERY WORD OF GOD PROVES TRUE; HE IS A SHIELD TO THOSE WHO TAKE REFUGE IN HIM. (6) Do not add to his words, lest he rebuke you and you be found a liar.” ( Proverbs 30:5-6 ESV)

God’s words -- whether warnings or promises -- are true and should to be taken as they are. His warnings are to be heeded because God knows the dangers we may not see and desires to PROTECT us from falling into them. The safety barrier of His commands is for OUR BENEFIT both physically and spiritually. May we appreciatively obey the warnings so that we can ultimately be brought safely into God’s heavenly kingdom. ( 2 Timothy 4:18)

Have a great day PRAISING GOD FOR THE PARAMETERS HE PROVIDES!
Carl
