Eyes Wide Open!
Yesterday morning as I was a couple miles into my walk, a song began running through my mind. I don’t believe I had heard the song in a while, but the following words kept coming again and again: “Open the eyes of my heart, Lord. Open the eyes of my heart. I want to see you. I want to see you.” (Paul Baloche, © 1997, Integrity’s Hosanna! Music) Even though I spend time in God’s Word on a daily basis, perhaps these words were reminding me of how I need to always maintain an openness to what God is trying to reveal.
The psalmist stated…
“OPEN MY EYES, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.” ( Psalm 119:18 ESV)
When it comes to viewing God’s Word it is not so much what our eyes see as it is what we are willing to TAKE TO HEART. The same things can be viewed by two individuals with one walking away denying the existence of God and the authority of His Word while another comes away accepting it all! In order to see God and the wisdom of His Word, the EYES OF OUR HEART must be open to seeing as He would have us see.
In Paul’s letter to the church in Ephesus we read…
“(15) For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, (16) I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, (17) that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of WISDOM and of revelation in the KNOWLEDGE of him, (18) HAVING THE EYES OF YOUR HEARTS ENLIGHTENED, THAT YOU MAY KNOW what is THE HOPE to which he has called you, what are THE RICHES OF HIS GLORIOUS INHERITANCE in the saints, (19) and what is THE IMMEASURABLE GREATNESS OF HIS POWER TOWARD US who believe, according to the working of his great might (20) that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, (21) far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.” ( Ephesians 1:15-21 ESV)
To recognize the Sovereignty of God and His loving mindfulness of every aspect of our lives, as well as perceiving the depth of knowledge and practical wisdom contained in His Word, ought to leave us wide-eyed in awe of such a provider as He. How enlightened are we allowing the EYES OF OUR HEART to be each time to consider God and read His wondrous message of hope and grace? May all we have come to know about God and the blessings He desires to bring to our life both now and for eternity be TAKEN TO HEART as we live in the light of His wondrous love. Believing in Him and all that He has revealed will help us to see as we ought.
Have a great day KNOWING THAT THE SEEING IS IN THE BELIEVING!
