To Know And Be Known!
Someone has said, “God knows us better than we know ourselves and He loves us better too.” [source: calendar quote] Oh, to BE KNOWN and LOVED in such a way. How much do we know it? How are we allowing it to impact the way we live?
In His omniscient power, God knows all about us. Our whole being is fully exposed before His all seeing eye. ( Hebrews 4:13) As we seek to live in a right relationship with Him that ought to be knowledge that brings comfort rather than fear. For such to be the case would be to know as we ought.
In Paul’s letter to the church at Corinth we read…
“(1) Now concerning food offered to idols: we know that ‘all of us possess knowledge.’ This ‘knowledge’ puffs up, but LOVE BUILDS UP. (2) If anyone imagines that he knows something, he does not yet know as he ought to know. (3) But if anyone LOVES GOD, he is KNOWN BY GOD.” ( 1 Corinthians 8:1-3 ESV)
With knowledge comes such a challenge! One of the things that challenged the unity within the church at Corinth was a lack of consideration for where others were in their spiritual growth and understanding. Along with knowledge we must also possess a spirit of humility and patience toward others. After all, we did not come to know all we know overnight. Also, even what we do know, perhaps we still do not know it as we ought.
Does what we know cause us to LOVE GOD more? If we are going to be PUFFED UP by knowledge, let it be with regard to knowing HOW MUCH LOVE God has for us (and others) and His mindfulness of every aspect of our life. Such acknowledgment ought to encourage us to press on in life regardless of trials faced and compel us to continually seek to please Him. May the LOVE GOD HAS FOR US go to our head and our heart so that we will always appropriately respond to Him, His Will, and to others.
Have a great day BUILT UP TO BUILD UP IN LOVE!
Carl
