To Back And Face!

Since we don’t have eyes in the back of our head we don’t always know what goes on behind our back. However, whatever it is may indicate those who truly are or are not our FRIENDS. The same is true with regard to what we are doing behind the backs of others. Are we the kind of FRIEND we want others to be to us?

Someone has said, “A friend is a person who goes around saying nice things about you behind your back.” [source: bulletin clipping]

Solomon stated…
“A FRIEND LOVES AT ALL TIMES, and a brother is born for adversity.” ( Proverbs 17:17 ESV)

Solomon also noted…
“(6) FAITHFUL ARE THE WOUNDS OF A FRIEND; profuse are the kisses of an enemy. … (9) Oil and perfume make the heart glad, and THE SWEETNESS OF A FRIEND COMES FROM HIS EARNEST COUNSEL.” ( Proverbs 27:6 & 9 ESV)

Taking these two passages together can help us gain the proper picture of a TRUE FRIEND. A TRUE FRIEND loves enough to speak well of us to others rather than involving themselves in gossip, but also cares enough to say to our face what we need to hear. They will not say behind our back what they would not say to our face, but some of what they would say to our face they would not repeat behind our back.

Though there is only one letter difference between “FRIEND” and “fiend” the two are a world apart. It is little things that can also make a world of difference in our relationships. A TRUE FRIEND knows what to speak when and where in order to bring benefit rather than tearing down. May we be blessed to have such friends and be such a blessing to others as well.

Have a great day REMEMBERING TO LOVE AT ALL TIMES!
Carl
