What Way Do We Love?
During the time of Jeremiah the focus was such that it’s impact was referred to as being an “appalling and horrible thing.” ( Jeremiah 5:30 ESV) What was happening among the people and why would they wonder ( Jeremiah 5:19) at the lack of blessing and protection of God?
God declared through Jeremiah…
“the prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests rule at their direction; MY PEOPLE LOVE TO HAVE IT SO, but what will you do when the end comes?” ( Jeremiah 5:31 ESV)
The prophets who should have been God’s messengers were proclaiming their OWN MESSAGE and rather than the priests serving under the direction of God, they followed their OWN RULE or authority. Bad leadership only serves to lead others astray. However, the people were not innocent in this because things were the way they loved for it to be! Such apparently served their OWN INTERESTS as the focus rested on what people wanted rather than the Will of God. This approach to life may have made them happy then, but where would it leave them in the end?
Even Paul warned of a time when people would surround themselves with teachers who would teach what they wanted to hear. ( 2 Timothy 4:3) We place ourselves in a dangerous position when we refuse to listen to what we need and open our ears only to what we want to hear. When we want to feel good more than be right how can be expect the blessing of God?
What is central to OUR FOCUS? What is central to OUR DESIRES? What is the way of OUR AFFECTIONS? What way do we love? Jesus is the Way. ( John 14:6) Do we love Him? If the answer is “yes” (and I pray it is) then let us seek to follow in His Way. Rather than following in the way we would have it, let us follow in the way God would have it. Therein we will find His blessing and be prepared for when the end comes.
Have a great day FEELING GOOD ABOUT FOLLOWING RIGHT!
