Save Or Savor?

People seem to always be looking for ways to “save” TIME. It is possible with the many conveniences of today to do things in “less” TIME. Doing some things quicker can then leave “more” TIME to do other things. There are also many things for which we must “make” TIME. However, the reality is that TIME cannot be “saved.”

Unlike money that can wisely be saved for needs that may arise in the future, TIME cannot be stored up or hoarded away. It cannot be locked away in a vault for protection, boxed up, or bottled in reserve. Though we may talk about setting aside TIME, it cannot be literally set off to the side and kept for use at some later date. TIME is like being in a stream with its waters continuing to flow and we can only move with the current. We may wisely plan how we will use TIME, but we must always bear in mind that TIME can only be used and savored (delighted in the use of) as it comes.

Paul encouraged the church at Colossae…
“Conduct yourselves WISELY toward outsiders, MAKING THE BEST USE OF THE TIME.” ( Colossians 4:5 ESV)

And to the church at Ephesus he exhorted…
“(15) Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but AS WISE, (16) MAKING THE BEST USE OF THE TIME, because the days are evil.” ( Ephesians 5:15-16 ESV)

Going with the flow as TIME streams on we need to wisely be mindful of using the opportunities as we come upon them. There may be no better TIME. It may be the only TIME. And it will be most certainly TIME that cannot be recaptured. The only way to relive it is in memory of what has been. Savoring and using TIME wisely at this moment will keep those memories worth reliving without regret and will also serve to prepare us for TIME that is yet to come. Living to glorify God and exemplify the name of Christ is most definitely wise use of the TIME. May we delight to use the TIME God gives us for the greatest good to His glory and praise because the days in which we live are in need of such wise use.
