Life Fellowship!

As Paul wrote to the church at Corinth, he exhorted and asked…
“Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For WHAT PARTNERSHIP HAS RIGHTEOUSNESS WITH LAWLESSNESS? Or WHAT FELLOWSHIP HAS LIGHT WITH DARKNESS?” ( 2 Corinthians 6:14 ESV)

Paul continued listing the contrasted relationships between Christ and Belial (Hebrew usage seems to be that of a very wicked person and is perhaps used here of the devil who is the personification of evil), a believer and unbeliever, the temple of God and idols, and then reminded these Christians at Corinth that they were “the temple of the living God.” ( 2 Corinthians 6:15-16) With what or whom we have brought ourselves into fellowship will ultimately impact our life and its eternal destiny.

Solomon warned…
“One who wanders from the way of good sense WILL REST IN THE ASSEMBLY OF THE DEAD.” ( Proverbs 21:16 ESV)

The New Living Translations refers to such a one as ending up in the “COMPANY” of the dead. Not life, but with the dead! The resting of the life will be found with them! Paul referred to one who was dead even while they lived because they were living for self-indulgence or pleasure. ( 1 Timothy 5:6) To leave the COMPANY or fellowship of the “good sense” of godly wisdom for living is to ultimately find oneself ASSEMBLED among the dead.

In encouraging contrast, Solomon went on to point out…
“Whoever pursues righteousness and kindness WILL FIND LIFE, RIGHTEOUSNESS, AND HONOR.” ( Proverbs 21:21 ESV)

With what are we seeking to maintain fellowship? What are we pursuing? As we grasp at life are we taking hold of life that is truly life? Is the way we are traveling a “dead end” or the “thoroughfare” that ultimately leads to life eternal? Pursuing righteousness will find us in the fellowship of life now and forevermore. May we keep the right ASSEMBLY in view.
