Our Role In The Relationship!

I have a dictionary that lists two words, one after the other, whose meanings are world’s apart. Both of these words are associated with relationships, but have impacts dynamically opposed to each other. The two words are “betray” and “betroth”. To “betray” is defined as to deliver to an enemy by treachery, to fail or desert as in time of need, or to violate a confidence and trust. The word “betroth” refers to a promise to marry or be given in marriage. The first word describes that which would create a separation in relationships while the second points toward a relationship drawn close together.

The church is referred to by several designations, one of which is the bride of Christ. (i.e. Revelation 21:2 & 9) Paul even paralleled the relationship of Christ and the church with that of husbands toward their wives. ( Ephesians 5:25-29) The way we live demonstrates whether we are FAITHFUL to our relationship with Christ or not.

Note the concern Paul expressed to the church at Corinth.
“I feel a divine jealousy for you, for I BETROTHED YOU TO ONE HUSBAND, to present you AS A PURE VIRGIN TO CHRIST.” ( 2 Corinthians 11:2 ESV)

Judas betrayed the Lord for a price and He was handed over to His enemies. There is a sense in which we could be bought by the world -- setting aside Christian principles in order to receive the world’s acceptance -- and by so doing be guilty of betraying the Christ with Whom we claim to have a relationship. In a world where many don’t seem to take relationships seriously, we need to demonstrate the difference FAITHFULNESS and holiness in our relationship with Christ makes. Beginning with our FAITHFULNESS to Christ, may our other relationships follow suit.

Have a great day BEING A RELATIONSHIP BUILDER!
