Mission Accomplished
The orders are given. The mission is launched. The focus is on victory and how bitter/sweet is its attainment! Others have paid the price for some of the blessings we enjoy. Personal sacrifices have been made on our behalf. COMMANDS were given, obeyed, and missions were declared a success. That is no more true than with regard to our life spiritually.
Note an interesting statement made by David.
“Be to me a rock of refuge, to which I may continually come; YOU HAVE GIVEN THE COMMAND TO SAVE ME, for you are my rock and my fortress.” ( Psalm 71:3 ESV)
When we think of the COMMANDS of God, we generally focus on the principles of Scripture that we are to take to heart and to which we are to obediently submit. That being so, have we considered God having given the COMMAND TO SAVE us? David had confidence in God’s ability to save and expressed it in terms of God having COMMANDED it to be so. According to Strong’s lexicon, the Hebrew translated “command” is “tsavah”, which conveys the primary meanings of “to command, charge, give orders, lay charge, give charge to, order.” Just as God’s authority is behind the COMMANDS we are to obey, so it is behind the plan that has made our salvation possible.
Jesus was sent into this world on a specific mission.
“For GOD did not SEND HIS SON INTO THE WORLD to condemn the world, but in order THAT THE WORLD MIGHT BE SAVED THROUGH HIM.” ( John 3:17 ESV)
Our Heavenly Father wants our salvation so much that He COMMANDED for the means of it to be taken care of by giving the Son the CHARGE of coming to earth and securing the victory. Coming into this realm, Jesus obediently followed the plan on our behalf.
As Paul declared…
“HE HUMBLED HIMSELF BY BECOMING OBEDIENT TO THE POINT OF DEATH, even death on a cross.” ( Philippians 2:8 ESV)
Our Lord’s obedience was exercised on our behalf and He fulfilled His mission in each detail. In His last breath on the cross He declared “IT IS FINISHED.” ( John 19:30) His blood had been shed and sin could “once for all” ( Hebrews 9:26; 10:10) be dealt with in an adequate way. Then He rose from the dead to lead toward the everlasting victory of life eternal.
What God COMMANDS He expects to be carried out! The COMMAND TO SAVE has been given. Our Savior, Jesus Christ, submitted to the plan and accomplished the mission. May we completely surrender our life to Him so that we may enjoy the victory He has secured.
Have a great day ASSURED OF THE AUTHORITY BEHIND OUR SALVATION!
