Boomerang!
A “boomerang” is a tool used for hunting and as a weapon by Aborigines in Australia. It has also become a popular toy. However, there are situations in life that some seem slow to understand how certain actions can tend to “boomerang” in the sense of coming right back at themselves.
Solomon stated…
“Whoever digs a pit WILL FALL INTO IT, and a stone will COME BACK ON HIM who starts it rolling.” ( Proverbs 26:27 ESV)
If this verse is connected with verses 22-26, we get a picture of deception and evil intent coming back on the one who directed it toward others. We need to consider what we are doing and the true impact it can have on self. Someone has said, “Throw mud and you will have dirty hands, whether or not the mud hits the mark.” [source: “sentence sermons”] Words, cut downs, jabs, negative remarks, etc. can be like mud thrown. While some may consider the source of such and choose to simply let it go by, the one who has thrown it is still left with DIRTY HANDS with which to deal.
Writing to the church at Ephesus, Paul exhorted…
“Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is GOOD FOR BUILDING UP, as FITS THE OCCASION, that it may GIVE GRACE TO THOSE WHO HEAR.” ( Ephesians 4:29 ESV)
Let us be careful what we direct toward others. Whatever we hand out or toss out, how would we feel to have it return? May we be known as encouragers and promoters of peace among others. Remember, those who hand out flowers end up with some of the FRAGRANCE LEFT ON THEIR HANDS. I think I prefer that, don’t you?
Have a great day MINDFUL OF WHAT WE ARE HANDING OUT!
