To Him!
David was a valiant warrior and a man of great faith. Certainly he had his ups and downs and challenges in life, but he had a marvelous way of getting his focus back to where it needed to be. He had a good heart; a heart that continued to be inclined toward GOD. And with the INCLINE OF HIS HEART was the INCLINE OF HIS VISION.
In one of David’s psalms we read…
“(1) Give ear to my words, O LORD; consider my groaning. (2) Give attention to the sound of my cry, MY KING and MY GOD, for TO YOU DO I PRAY. (3) O LORD, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch.” ( Psalm 5:1-3 ESV)
The latter part of verse two in the New Living Translation reads, “… for I WILL NEVER PRAY TO ANYONE BUT YOU.” [NLT, © 1997, Tyndale House] For David there was no one else to LOOK TO in the challenges of life. As we look at the record of David’s life there appears to be not even a hint of being tempted to look toward some other god. GOD was it! The Living GOD was David’s SINGULAR FOCUS. No wonder we see so much stability in his life that he should be called a man after GOD’S own heart. (i.e. 1 Samuel 13:14; Acts 13:22) To GOD David prayed and to GOD he looked, watching for GOD’S Will to prevail.
There’s a grand hymn we sometimes sing that contains the refrain “Where could I go, but to the Lord?” (hymn by James B. Coats, 1940) Regardless of what is going on in life, where else could we go but TO THE LORD? Where else should we WANT TO GO, but TO HIM? Like GOD’S servant David, may our hearts be INCLINED TOWARD GOD so that the FOCUS OF OUR VISION may be also. Let GOD be the only One to Whom we pray as we watch in faith for what He will bring about.
Have a great day MAINTAINING THE FOCUS ON THE ONE TO WHOM WE CAN GO DAY OR NIGHT!
