Treasure!

Treasure! Is it always searched for in the right place? Is it always recognized when uncovered? Is it often walked past though it may sit in plain view? There are junk collectors who live by the motto “One person’s trash is another’s treasure.” However, there are those in the world who seem ready to trash that which truly should be treasured.

At a time when Assyria was threatening to once again march against Jerusalem, there was cause for terror, grief, and confusion. However, this destroyer who appeared so threatening would itself be destroyed. ( Isaiah 33:1) Therefore, Isaiah spoke words of encouragement to the nation of God’s people to help them recognize a treasure that was still theirs.

We read…
“(5) The LORD is exalted, for he dwells on high; HE will fill Zion with justice and righteousness, (6) and HE will be the stability of your times, abundance of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge; THE FEAR OF THE LORD IS ZION’S [or HIS] TREASURE.” ( Isaiah 33:5-6 ESV)

THE LORD, GOD! Oh how we should treasure HIM in all the ways HE deserves to be feared, honored, and trusted above all. There is a lot going on in this world that can give rise to anxiety. Do we truly recognize GOD as the much needed “stability for [our] times”? The politics and ideologies of this world have not even come close to solving man’s conflicts or bringing salvation. Do we realize the “abundance of salvation” that GOD has made available to us today through the gift of HIS Son, Jesus Christ and that He is the only means of that salvation? With all the libraries of books that have been written through the ages one might think that therein could be found adequate wisdom to correct the ills of society and yet our world is not getting better. Do we recognize the Word GOD has preserved for us to read and study is still the treasure chest of “wisdom and knowledge” that will make the greatest difference in our life and the lives of those we direct toward it?

Solomon declared…
“RIGHTEOUSNESS EXALTS A NATION, but sin is a reproach to any people.” ( Proverbs 14:34 ESV)

The best treasure of a nation (and each individual) is a religious spirit centered on the True and Living GOD! As Isaiah began in verse 5, may The LORD GOD truly be exalted in our own life. With a resolve to strive to live in accordance with HIS righteousness it will become evident how we truly do treasure above all else the stability, abundant salvation, wisdom, and knowledge that is found in allowing GOD to have HIS rightful place in our life. The proper “fear of the LORD” is where such wisdom begins and to practice such reveals we have a good understanding. ( Psalm 111:10) May this perspective of our GOD be maintained and highly treasured!

Have a great day LETTING GOD’S VALUES REMAIN OURS!
