Called Calling Called!
“Dispatch calling Medic One! Come in please!” The call goes out as LIFE IMPACTING information is in need of being communicated. When life is in peril, emergency 911 services dispatch the medics or police or fire department to go to the rescue. The call goes out and the call needs to be received and acted upon because it could be a life or death situation.
As Paul began his letter to the church at Rome, we read…
“Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, CALLED TO BE AN APOSTLE, set apart for the gospel of God,” ( Romans 1:1 ESV)
On the road to Damascus, Paul was called and he responded. ( Acts 9) He was set apart for the gospel, sent (as an Apostle) by Jesus to carry His Name “before the Gentiles and kings and the children of Israel.” ( Acts 9:15) Paul was Divinely dispatched with a LIFE IMPACTING message and mission.
With regard to those to whom Paul was writing he stated…
“(6) including you who are CALLED TO BELONG TO JESUS CHRIST, (7) to all those in Rome who are loved by God and CALLED TO BE SAINTS: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.” ( Romans 1:6-7 ESV)
Can we perhaps hear… “Called calling the called! Come in please!”? Paul, having accepted His calling by Jesus, was writing to fellow brothers and sisters in Christ who were also called; “called to belong to Jesus” and “called to be saints” (holy ones, sanctified ones). Would we not agree that is a very high calling? Paul wrote to provide LIFE IMPACTING encouragement, exhortation, and reproof so that the lives of these Christians would reflect to the world the high calling they had received.
How about us? Does our manner of living reveal we recognize how we also have been “called to belong to Jesus” as well as “called to be saints”? Are we remaining open to the reception and transmission of faith to faith? ( Romans 1:17) The response to the Gospel is a life or death situation. Its message is a LIFE IMPACTING communication we need to receive and be willing to relay to others in the field of this world. May we be willing to do our part in the Lord’s rescue of lost souls.
Have a great day DOING WHAT WE HAVE BEEN DISPATCHED TO DO!
Carl
