But Busy About What?

We probably all have pretty busy schedules. Some of that business is hopefully involvement in work for the Lord. If we are too busy for that then we are downright too busy and need to reprioritize the things we are doing.

It has been noted that Satan loves to keep Christians so over busy in “the Lord’s work” that the Lord doesn’t get an opportunity to tell them what it is He wants them to do. Think about that notion for a moment. Consider what it is you are doing in the Name of the Lord and where the idea has actually originated. Is it always the Lord’s work that is called “the Lord’s work”?

Jesus cautioned…
“(21) Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, BUT THE ONE WHO DOES THE WILL OF MY FATHER who is in heaven. (22) On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy IN YOUR NAME, and cast out demons IN YOUR NAME, and do many mighty works IN YOUR NAME?’ (23) And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’” ( Matthew 7:21-23 ESV)

The Lord mentioned some good things being done in His Name and the context makes it sound like they were not being done for self-glory. However, the error was in that what was being done was apparently self-chosen rather than God-chosen since Jesus’ emphasis was on doing the FATHER’S WILL. It is therefore possible to be involved in many good works and still not be right in the eyes of God. To acknowledge the Lordship of Jesus means HIS WILL is to be supreme.

Are we merely choosing and doing and then putting the Lord’s Name on our works in an attempt to validate them? Or are we truly seeking to understand what HIS WILL is? More than busyness and even busyness that we have attached the Lord’s Name to, is the need to understand what it is GOD ACTUALLY WILLS for us to be doing. That is why we need to keep studying God’s Word sincerely seeking to be sure of what the HIS WILL is.

Paul exhorted…
“(15) LOOK CAREFULLY THEN HOW YOU WALK, not as unwise but AS WISE, (16) making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. (17) Therefore do not be foolish, but UNDERSTAND WHAT THE WILL OF THE LORD IS.” ( Ephesians 5:15-17 ESV)

Perhaps we could also rightly say that we should look carefully then how we “work” so that our works, like our walk, may all be done wisely. Let us seek to find out what the LORD’S WILL is so that we can be involved in it. If we are going to be eager to get busy, let it be about the LORD’S WILL! Acknowledging HIS WILL will bring Divine acknowledgement to our works.

Have a great day WILLING TO DO WHAT GOD WILLS TO BE DONE!
