Gigantically Great!
People get greatly excited about MEGA events and MEGA news. Sales adds herald MEGA selection and MEGA savings. The announcements go out and the people come running. So much hype! So much excitement! Nevertheless, how many times do people walk away with nothing because of limited stock or the offer was simply just not as good as it had seemed? Or how many come away with contentment unsatisfied, finding themselves searching for the next MEGA thing?
What excites us? What brings joy to our life? Are we still searching or have we found that which provides a sense of it that is lasting?
When it was time for Jesus to come onto life’s scene, the attention of shepherds was captured and we read…
“(10) And the angel said to them, ‘Fear not, for behold, I BRING YOU GOOD NEWS OF A GREAT JOY THAT WILL BE FOR ALL THE PEOPLE. (11) For unto you is born this day in the city of David A SAVIOR, who is CHRIST THE LORD.’” ( Luke 2:10-11 ESV)
The Greek word translated “great” is “megas”, a word used in referring to much in quantity, degree, size, or status. The announcement of a Savior being born was heralded as good news of MEGA JOY! And though it excited the shepherds who went to see Jesus and made known to others the saying that had been told them ( Luke 2:17), this MEGA JOY was intended to “be for all the people.” Has Jesus become the source of MEGA JOY for us? If we truly see Him as we ought He should be an abiding source of MEGA JOY. The best things we could ever gain and possess are associated with a life in Christ.
As Paul rejoiced over the faith of those in Ephesus and kept them in his prayers, he reminded them of what they had because of Jesus when he wrote…
“(18) having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may KNOW WHAT IS THE HOPE to which he has called you, WHAT ARE THE RICHES OF HIS GLORIOUS INHERITANCE in the saints, (19) and what is the IMMEASURABLE GREATNESS [(Gk.) “megathos”] OF HIS POWER toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might (20) that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places,” ( Ephesians 1:18-20 ESV).
Among the blessings that give reason for lasting MEGA JOY are the hope, the rich inheritance, and the “immeasurable” MEGA power at work for us who are in Christ. If we have a desire for true gain it is found in living for Christ in accordance with the Will of God. In fact, Paul stated that there is “GREAT [(Gk., “megas”) GAIN IN GODLINESS with contentment.” ( 1 Timothy 6:6)
Some stores may advertise as being the “savings place”, but that true place is found in Jesus Christ. May we truly experience the MEGA JOY that comes through recognizing the MEGA power and the MEGA blessings that are ours in Him.
Have a great day OF GIGANTIC JOY IN JESUS!
Carl
