Weighty Light Significance!

God is amazing. His power is well beyond what we can even ask or think. ( Ephesians 3:20) We should be encouraged that even in God’s greatness He is still mindful of our individual lives. However, the spectrum of His plans have always been quite broad. As God created the world He brought LIGHT into existence. ( Genesis 1:3) That LIGHT was not a LIGHT thing because life depends upon it. The same is true with regard to how vital God’s spiritual LIGHT is to our existence now and for eternity.

As Isaiah prophesied regarding the Messiah and the message of hope in Him, among the statements made we read…

“he says: ‘It is TOO LIGHT A THING that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to bring back the preserved of Israel; I WILL MAKE YOU AS A LIGHT FOR THE NATIONS, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.’” ( Isaiah 49:6 ESV)

Paul mentioned this prophecy in association with the carrying out of his ministry of the Gospel of Jesus. ( Acts 13:47) As the Jews waited in great anticipation for the coming of their Messiah, they needed to bear in mind the full extent of God’s plan. Though the fulfillment of the promise made to Abraham ( Genesis 22:18; 26:4) for blessing mankind came through one nation of people, it was too LIGHT a thing for Jesus to come only to give Himself for that nation. The weight of the matter is that Jesus Christ is to be recognized as the LIGHT for all nations. He is still the “LIGHT of the world” ( John 8:12; 9:5) needed by mankind to find their way to the Father. ( John 14:6) Without His LIGHT we would be left with the heaviness of darkness and the weight of the guilt of our sins.

As we enjoy walking in the LIGHT of our Lord, let us never view what He has done for us as a LIGHT thing. Our eternal salvation depends upon Him and the redemption He has provided through His blood. May we continue to extend the message of that hope to those around us.
