Creator Of The Calm!
After Jesus had spent some time teaching in parables, He and the disciples got into a boat, leaving the crowd behind. While they were crossing the sea a great windstorm arose causing the waves to begin breaking over the side of the boat. Remember, four of the disciples had been fisherman and were very familiar with the dangers that could arise on the sea. As the storm grew, so did their concern. But what was Jesus doing as the boat began to fill with water? He was PEACEFULLY sleeping in the stern of the boat. ( Mark 4:36)
After Jesus was awakened by the disciples we read…
“(39) And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, ‘PEACE! BE STILL!’ And the wind ceased, and THERE WAS A GREAT CALM. (40) He said to them, ‘Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?’ (41) And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, ‘Who then is this, that even wind and sea obey him?’” ( Mark 4:39-41 ESV)
Someone has said, “Peace rules the day when Christ rules the mind.” [source: “sentence sermons”] I think the statement could also be made that PEACE rules the day when Christ rules the heart or the life. Without His rule in our life, how can we possibly think we can have PEACE. The disciples were still beginning to come to grips with all the Lord was truly the Lord of. He would later encourage them that even though they would have trials in this world, in Him they would have PEACE. ( John 16:33) Just as Jesus had the power to calm the storm, He also had the power to overcome the world and bring PEACE beyond anything this world could offer. ( John 14:27)
Like the disciples, we need to remember who entered the “boat” of life with us so that we could develop faith in His ability to see us through the storms. In our relationship with Him we can find PEACE of mind that no storm is a match for His overcoming power. Rather than telling our Lord how big the storm is, let us tell the storm how great our Lord truly is. Then we can find the PEACE Jesus desires for us to experience.
Have a great day LETTING CHRIST RULE ON!
