Horse Sense?

Following the arrest of Peter and John, their being brought before the Jewish council, and then their release after being told to speak or teach no more in the name of Jesus ( Acts 4:18), they reported to their friends what had happened. ( Acts 4:23) Hearing the report, they prayed together to God, and in that prayer they quoted some words from David.

We read…
“(25)…WHY DID THE GENTILES RAGE, AND THE PEOPLES PLOT IN VAIN? (26) The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers were gathered together, against the Lord and against his Anointed’” ( Acts 4:25a-26 ESV) [quoting Psalm 2:1-2]

The Greek word “rage” used by Luke in the record of Acts is “phruasso” which primarily referred to the snorting, NEIGHING, or tromping of a horse. How often is that literally what the unbelieving world does in response to the commands of God? There are so many NAY-SAYERS who refuse to accept the proofs regarding Who Jesus is and the vital link He is to God and our salvation. There are the NAY-SAYERS who continually say no to the absolutes of God’s moral standard. There are the NAY-SAYERS who wish to squelch the mention of the Name of God in public life. They won’t believe, will not accept, and often refuse to even listen as they “tromp” off to do their own thing.

Like the Apostles Peter and John, let our resolve be that we too “cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard” ( Acts 4:20) regardless of the NAYS of the world. Living as Christians we have seen the wholesomeness Jesus’ teachings have brought to life. And the message of salvation we have read and heard is not to be squelched. The plotting against God’s plans and purposes will ultimately be in vain because His truth will continue to march on regardless of how many NAY-SAYERS there may be.

Perhaps horses have more sense than the NAY-SAYERS, however, it seems every age will have them! Jesus was surround by NAY-SAYERS. The Apostles were also opposed by them. Why should we think we will not face them as well? May the bold affirmation of our life be a resounding YEA because the world needs to come to know that all the promises of God find their YES in Christ. ( 2 Corinthians 1:20) When it comes to salvation in Christ, the YEAS have it!

Have a great day CONTINUALLY AFFIRMING YOUR YES TO CHRIST!
Carl
