Two Sides To The Door!

Life provides opportunities to do a variety of things. Though these opportunities may vary in significance, they ought to be recognized and given consideration. Someone has said, “If God writes ‘Opportunity’ on one side of open doors, He writes ‘Responsibility’ on the other.” [source: sentence sermons]

What an awesome privilege the disciples had to be able to walk and talk with Jesus. Through the varying encounters, Jesus was training them for the work He would leave them to do. The disciples were expected to be RESPONSIBLE with what they had learned and the calling they had received.

As Jesus was honest regarding challenges that lay ahead, He said…
“(12) But before all this they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors for my name’s sake. (13) THIS WILL BE YOUR OPPORTUNITY to bear witness.” ( Luke 21:12-13 ESV)

We don’t have to read too far into the book of Acts to see these who were at one time very timid, being very bold. They recognized the open doors, seized the opportunities, and accept the RESPONSIBILITY the Lord had laid on them. They had a message of hope to share, a mission to carry out, and they would not be stopped! ( Acts 5:41-42)

When we find ourselves challenged in life and going through difficult times, perhaps our perspective would be better if we began by looking for the opportunity the occasion might present. As we step through the door of opportunity, if we look back, may it be to recognize the RESPONSIBILITY that is ours as servants of Jesus. What is it that we have been brought to that moment to carry out? Perhaps it is the opportunity for the world to see the genuineness of our love. Maybe it is the opportunity for others to see a faith that remains steadfast. It could be the opportunity for those around us to see that we believe the truth enough to not be moved from it no matter what others might say or think. Perhaps it is the opportunity to speak words of truth that have the power to either convict or encourage. In all of this others can take note that Jesus has made a tremendous difference in our life.

We have a RESPONSIBILITY to live up to what we know. As we go through our daily life we may be the person for the moment who needs to act. May we enter into the opportunities before us with that in mind.

Have a great day ACTING ACCOUNTABLY TOWARD OPPORTUNITIES!
