The Messiah!
The timing of events can be affected by many factors in this life. Due to unforeseen circumstances, happenings may be either canceled or postponed. When something is canceled that means it will not happen. However, if something is postponed, we can look for it to take place at a later date. This past Thursday afternoon I received a call from the director of our area community chorus to let me know that evening’s PLANNED performance of George Frideric Handle’s “Messiah” (1742) had been postponed due to weather. The performance would be rescheduled for some time in January, though this coming Sunday afternoon’s performance would still go on as scheduled. (My part in this concert is that of playing in the small orchestra which will accompany the 90 some member chorus from our community and the surrounding area.) It has often been said, “The show must go on.” Nevertheless, that is not always the case. Cancellations and postponements do take place.
With all the PLANNING and rehearsing it would have been a shame to completely cancel the “Messiah.” It was still unfortunate to have to delay one of the performances. However, the realities associated with God’s PLANNING of the “Messiah” have never been and never will be hampered by weather or anything else. Though some may interpret time passing as a postponing by God, all things related to His PLANNING have been and will be carried out according to His timetable.
Paul noted with respect to the initial coming of the “Messiah”…
"(4) But WHEN THE FULLNESS OF TIME HAD COME, GOD SENT FORTH HIS SON, born of woman, born under the law, (5) to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.” ( Galatians 4:4-5 ESV)
With regard to securing our salvation, Paul stated…
“For while we were still weak, AT THE RIGHT TIME CHRIST DIED for the ungodly.” ( Romans 5:6 ESV)
And as Paul stood before an audience in Athens, He declared…
“(30) The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent, (31) because HE HAS FIXED A DAY ON WHICH HE WILL JUDGE THE WORLD in righteousness BY a man WHOM he has APPOINTED; and of this HE HAS GIVEN ASSURANCE to all BY RAISING HIM FROM THE DEAD.” ( Acts 17:30-31 ESV)
Even in this last reference it is clear Paul was, again, referring to Jesus, the “Messiah.” What God has PLANNED will go on! It will take place! At the time He has scheduled it, it will happen! Let us be encouraged and prepared!
Have a great day KNOWING GOD’S PLANNING STAYS ON SCHEDULE!
