That Name!

As we look at the Scriptures we notice many names referring to JESUS; each one descriptive of His essence and everything He represents. Like God Himself Who had many descriptive Hebrew names, it appears one name was also insufficient in capturing our Lord’s essence. Among those names we have “Alpha and Omega”, “Anointed One”, “Christ” “Emmanuel”, the “Good Shepherd”, “King of kings”, “Lord of lords”, “Messiah”, “Prince of Peace”, “Redeemer”, “Savior”, the “Way, the Truth, the Life”, “Wonderful Counselor” etc. However, it is perhaps the name JESUS, the name to be given Him at His birth ( Luke 1:31), which reminds us most of the humanity He took on.

The name JESUS may strike us as a sweet name to hear. There seems to be something tender about it. Yet there is also something very powerful about the name JESUS. It was in the “NAME OF JESUS” that Peter commanded the lame beggar to rise up and walk. ( Acts 3:6)

When questioned regarding the healing, Peter declared…
“And HIS NAME -- BY FAITH IN HIS NAME -- has made this man strong whom you see and know, and the faith that is through JESUS has given the man this perfect health in the presence of you all.” ( Acts 3:16 ESV)

Peter connected JESUS with conversion and forgiveness of sins as he spoke on the day of Pentecost.
“And Peter said to them, “Repent and BE BAPTIZED every one of you IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF YOUR SINS, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” ( Acts 2:38 ESV)

Peter also emphatically declared…
“(11) This JESUS is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. (12) And there is salvation in no one else, for there is NO OTHER NAME under heaven given among men BY WHICH WE MUST BE SAVED.” ( Acts 4:11-12 ESV)

Do these things come to mind when the name of JESUS is spoken? Do we recognize the power and blessing associated with His name? Do we also acknowledge the honor that name deserves?

Paul affirmed…
“(9) Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the NAME THAT IS ABOVE EVERY NAME, (10) so that AT THE NAME OF JESUS EVERY KNEE SHOULD BOW, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, (11) and every tongue confess that JESUS CHRIST IS LORD, to the glory of God the Father.” ( Philippians 2:9-11 ESV)

The manner in which we live and speak His name should convey a view of His exalted position in our life. May the name of JESUS retain the beauty, power, and promise that it should represent to us.

Have a great day LETTING JESUS REMAIN THE LORD OF YOUR LIFE!
