It Is What It Is!
I don’t recall where I originally came across the following quotation, but I had written it on a 3X5 card that has been in my Bible for a while. It is a quote from the French novelist Jacques Anatole Francois Thibault (1844-1924) who was also the recipient of the Nobel Prize in literature in 1921. He stated, “If a million people say a foolish thing, it is still a foolish thing.”
The number of people agreeing on an idea does not make a bad one good. That which is wrong is still wrong regardless of how many people might say otherwise. Whatever is unwise remains unwise no matter how many people try to validate it. Foolishness and true wisdom will ultimately be seen for what they are.
Note some Paul referred to.
“For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but THEY BECAME FUTILE IN THEIR THINKING, and their FOOLISH HEARTS WERE DARKENED.” ( Romans 1:21 ESV)
There are many who continue in such a state today and for some reason seem to gain followers. Bad ideas appear to be just as catching as a virus and society gets sick in the process. Foolishness continues to be flaunted and followed by those who refuse to acknowledge there are absolutes in this life and what one believes does ultimately make a difference.
Writing to the church at Ephesus, Paul urged…
“Now this I say and testify in the Lord, that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, IN THE FUTILITY OF THEIR MINDS.” ( Ephesians 4:17 ESV)
There is wisdom from above and wisdom that is earthly and they are not the same. ( James 3:14-17) Following the ways of the world is futility. We need to be sure we are acknowledging and following true wisdom.
As we live in the midst of a diversity of so called “wisdom”, what should we do? First of all, rather than being foolish, we must continue to seek to understand what the WILL OF THE LORD is. ( Ephesians 5:17) Then we must remain steadfast in LIVING IN ACCORDANCE WITH THAT WILL.
Peter exhorted…
“(15) For this is the will of God, that BY DOING GOOD YOU SHOULD PUT TO SILENCE THE IGNORANCE OF FOOLISH PEOPLE. (16) Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God.” ( 1 Peter 2:15-16)
Let us continually be mindful that our conduct is in accordance with GOD’S WILL. Ultimately His wisdom is going to be seen. May we live so that others may acknowledge it sooner rather than later.
Have a great day EXHIBITING THE TRUE WISDOM FROM ABOVE!
Carl
