In The Shadow!
Picture a child standing alone in a dimly lit area, when suddenly he sees his own shadow engulfed by a larger one. How quickly his imagination might picture the possibilities of what was approaching. Is it a bear? Is it the boogie man? Is it a giant ready to swoop him up? Quickly turning to face the creator of the fearful shadow, a sudden relief and calmness comes over him as he realizes the SHADOW IS THAT OF HIS FATHER.
Fear is often associated with that which may cast a large shadow. The shadow may reveal how close the object is or reveal its size. How huge a shadow can be made by a mountain! What a large shadow is cast by objects reaching to the sky!
The Psalmist wrote:
“(5) Your steadfast love, O LORD, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds. (6) Your righteousness is like the mountains of God; your judgments are like the great deep; man and beast you save, O LORD. (7) How precious is your steadfast love, O God! THE CHILDREN OF MANKIND TAKE REFUGE IN THE SHADOW OF YOUR WINGS.” ( Psalm 36:5-7 ESV)
Oh, to consider the height of God's faithfulness and righteousness and then to experience the calmness and comfort to know we are living in His shadow. He is near. To know Him as OUR FATHER is to NOT BE IN FEAR OF HIS SHADOW, but to know the refuge it offers.
Have a great day LIVING CALMLY IN THE SHADOW OF THE HEAVENLY FATHER!
