What A Building!
In Matthew 24, Jesus and His disciples had just left the Temple in Jerusalem and the disciples called His attention to its buildings. ( Matthew 24:1) They seemed quite impressed by the sight. Jesus, however, pointed out that a time was coming when these would be destroyed ( Matthew 24:2), and today when you visit that site there is no question to the truthfulness of Jesus’ statement.
When I read in the Scriptures the description of the building of Solomon’s Temple, I can’t help but think what a magnificent structure it must have been. He was quite the ARCHITECT. Now, by the time of Jesus’ walk on earth that Temple had been rebuilt several times, but I’m sure it and the surrounding buildings were still impressive. That is why the disciples were noting them. Nevertheless, there is another structure that is even more impressive because of the magnificent material it is made of, as well as the greatness of the ARCHITECT behind it. It is a building of a spiritual nature.
Note Paul’s reference to this building in his letter to the church at Ephesus:
“(19) So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, (20) built on the FOUNDATION OF THE APOSTLES AND PROPHETS, CHRIST JESUS HIMSELF BEING THE CORNERSTONE, (21) in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into A HOLY TEMPLE in the Lord. (22) In him you also are being BUILT TOGETHER INTO A DWELLING PLACE FOR GOD BY THE SPIRIT.” ( Ephesians 2:19-22 ESV)
Wow! What a structure! What better cornerstone to square it all up and join it together than Jesus Christ the chief cornerstone? What better foundation than that of the inspired Apostles and the Prophets, God’s messengers of the new and the old that centered on the salvation that came through Christ? And what greater privilege is there than for us to be a part of the structure being built together as a Holy Temple wherein God can dwell by His Spirit? What’s more -- it is a structure that no worldly empire can ever destroy! How wonderful to be used in the building of the GREATEST ARCHITECT!
Have a great day KNOWING WHAT YOU ARE A PART OF!
Carl
