Presentably Dressed!
Laundry seems to be a never ending job for my wife. As soon as she empties the clothes hamper it begins to fill again. We appreciate permanent press clothes that eliminate the need for ironing. However, even if the clothes have been washed, if left sitting in the dryer (rather than being immediately folded or hung up), crammed into a drawer, or hung wrong in the closet, they will end up with creases and WRINKLES that will make us appear very sloppily dressed. There is also the need to specially treat any stains that might be present in order for them to not become set in the garment.
In this life we are prone to slop stuff on ourselves -- not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually as well. The changing of our clothes does not change what is going on within our life. Perhaps we might look good to others, but we’re aware of the STAINS and the WRINKLES. And not even an industrial washer, dryer, or steam press is capable of dealing with those.
Jesus gave Himself up for the church…
“(26) that he might sanctify her, HAVING CLEANSED HER BY THE WASHING OF WATER WITH THE WORD, (27) so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, WITHOUT SPOT OR WRINKLE or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.” ( Ephesians 5:26-27 ESV)
We need Jesus and the Word to take care of the SPOTS and WRINKLES that have developed in our life. We can’t “Shout”® out these STAINS or “steam” out these WRINKLES. Baptized into Christ (coming into contact with the power of His cleansing blood) and continually being led by the Word is the only means of getting out the SPOTS and WRINKLES and having our life hang straight in the eyes of God.
We may greatly appreciate the machines, the person, or even the laundry service that takes care of our clothes. Nevertheless, when it comes to the SPOTS and WRINKLES of our life, let us praise God for the adequate service of cleansing available in Jesus Christ, our only means of standing presentable before Him.
Have a great day WITH LIFE LAUNDERED BY THE LORD!
Carl
