He Most Certainly Is!

I don’t know it’s origin. I don’t even know how far back it may date. However, I can remember the following words from childhood days being used to teach the daily practice of prayer. “God is great. God is good. Let us thank Him for our food. Amen.” Perhaps we would call this a rather simplistic prayer, but to acknowledge God as He is addressed in those words and to be thankful to Him for His daily provision is actually deeply profound. Who can adequately describe the true GREATNESS OF GOD? Who can list all the expressions of HIS GOODNESS.

The last verse of Psalm 100 states…
“For THE LORD IS GOOD; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.” ( Psalm 100:5 ESV)

Yes, God is most certainly GOOD. What He created was GOOD. (i.e. Genesis 1:4,10,etc) What He provides is GOOD. What else should be expected from the One Who is truly GOOD?

James declared…
“EVERY GOOD GIFT AND EVERY PERFECT GIFT IS FROM ABOVE, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” ( James 1:17 ESV)

Since GOD IS GOOD, how could what He has done, is doing, or will do be anything but GOOD? Due of GOD’S essence of GOODNESS we can expect GOODNESS because He does not change. As the Psalmist expressed, His “steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.” Therefore, as we acknowledge GOD’S GREATNESS and GOODNESS, let us continually thank Him for the food He provides, His steadfast love, His continuing faithfulness, and every other gracious gift He showers upon us.

Let us continually echo the words of the Psalmist…
“(28) YOU ARE MY GOD, and I WILL GIVE THANKS TO YOU; YOU ARE MY GOD; I will extol you. (29) OH GIVE THANKS TO THE LORD, FOR HE IS GOOD; for his steadfast love endures forever!” ( Psalm 118:28-29 ESV)

Have a great day THANKING THE GOD WHO IS!
Carl
