Strong Willed (part 1 of 2)

Dealing with a strong willed child can be quite challenging. Dealing with strong willed adults can be even more so. Who knows this better than God? Again and again we read the charge against God’s people as being stubborn, stiff necked, and rebellious. Though God provided the best guidance, as well as blessing after blessing, His Will was often ignored.

There are many who may think they have a strong will when in reality what they possess is a STRONG WON’T! Even after Jesus came this tendency still existed among those who considered themselves God’s people. It was those of hardened heart who condemned Jesus to be crucified. After He rose from the dead and ascended into Heaven, the Apostles continued to deal with opposition to the Will of God. Stephen, the first Christian to give his life for the faith ( Acts 7:58), noted this STRONG WON’T among those with whom he tried to share the truth.

Stephen stated…
“(51) You STIFF-NECKED PEOPLE, uncircumcised in heart and ears, YOU ALWAYS RESIST THE HOLY SPIRIT. As your fathers did, so do you. (52) Which of the prophets did not your fathers persecute? And they killed those who announced beforehand the coming of the Righteous One, whom you have now betrayed and murdered, (53) YOU WHO RECEIVED THE LAW as delivered by angels AND DID NOT KEEP IT.” ( Acts 7:51-53 ESV)

A very good description of a STRONG WON’T! Is it any different today? What marks our own life? Are we ever guilty of “resisting” the Will of God? Anytime we choose our will over His we have “resisted” His Will. May we “resist” the urge and submit to Him.

Have a great day SUBMITTING TO GOD’S BLESSED WILL!
