Remaining Afloat!
When I took a lifesaving class quite a number of years ago, one of the lessons learned was that if stranded in water, heavy clothing should be discarded in order to not be weighed down. There was also instruction on how to use clothing (such as pants or a shirt) as floatation devices by knotting and filling them with air. When I took scuba diving lessons I was taught the importance of making sure the weight belt could be easily released to enable easy floating if necessary. Getting rid of the weight belt allowed the wetsuit and safety vest to provide buoyancy and thus saving energy when trying to remain afloat.
Someone has stated “God’s love keeps us afloat. When we cling to that love, it is only our sins that sink.” [source: bulletin clipping]
Jesus warned regarding becoming weighed down by self-indulgent living. ( Luke 21:34) Being weighed down by such will cause us to sink lower and lower below the level of God’s Will. When we hold on to sin, it weighs us down. It needs to be released. If we do not recognize sin as sin, its weight will continue to pull us down and ultimately sink us.
In HIS GREAT LOVE, God has provided the means for keeping us afloat. However, we must remain in HIS LOVE. (i.e. John 15:10) We also need to lay aside every weight that will hinder our spiritual progress. ( Hebrews 12:1)
Of God, Micah declared…
“He will again have compassion on us; he will tread our iniquities under foot. YOU WILL CAST ALL OUR SINS INTO THE DEPTHS OF THE SEA.” ( Micah 7:19 ESV)
Let us hold to GOD’S LOVE as we live with a LOVE for His Will, allowing our sins to sink away from our life. As we keep our faith in Him and hold to His standards for living, He is able to keep us from sinking in the midst of a sea of worldliness. May HIS LOVE continue to be our life preserver.
Have a great day BUOYED BY THE SUSTAINING LOVE OF GOD!
Carl
