Life's Realities!

It is the lesser things that often occupy our focus. Not that there is no significance in many of those things, but when we forget the greater things we lose the perspective necessary for prompting us to press on. Life is full of surprises. Some of these may be exciting while others are potentially devastating.

Most of us are probably familiar with what has been called “Murphy’s Law” which states, “If something can go wrong, it will!” That and other expressions associated with “Murphy’s Law” provide a rather pessimistic view of life, even though this may sometimes feel like the experience in this world. To hold such an outlook on life can create an atmosphere of fear and anxiety that sets the stage for bad things to happen. It is true there are many things in life we cannot anticipate. However, fretting about the possibilities beforehand does us no good. What we need to strive to retain is a strong faith to help us stand strong when we are faced with trials of various kinds. To do this we need to focus on that which is certain.

God’s Law, not “Murphy’s” is where we find the room for OPTIMISM. In view of the many unknowns this life may hold, it is the KNOWN’S God has revealed that must be kept in view to aid us in pressing on.

Peter (quoting Isaiah 40:6-8) encouraged…
“(22) Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, (23) since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the LIVING AND ABIDING WORD OF GOD; (24) for ‘All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, (25) BUT THE WORD OF THE LORD REMAINS FOREVER.’ And this word is the good news that was preached to you.” ( 1 Peter 1:22-25 ESV)

God’s abiding Word can be counted on. In spite of the frailty of the flesh, since His Word “remains forever” we can be OPTIMISTIC about the future to which it refers.

Paul also encouraged…
“(18) As surely as God is faithful, our word to you has not been Yes and No. (19) For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, whom we proclaimed among you, Silvanus and Timothy and I, was not Yes and No, but IN HIM IT IS ALWAYS YES. (20) For ALL THE PROMISES OF GOD FIND THEIR YES IN HIM. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.” ( 2 Corinthians 1:18-20 ESV)

How does that relate to the realities of life? There are still bad things we may experience. There are still many unknowns. This life has its realities. However, God has realities which transcend this realm. As we abide in Christ we can count on all God’s promises to be a resounding “YES” for us. We can still count on what God will ultimately bring about because He has promised He will! May we continually view life here through the lense of the OPTIMISTIC assurance God has provided.

Have a great day TRUSTING WHAT’S TRULY REAL!
