Familiarity

We are most comfortable with that with which we are most familiar. We can also be at ease when we are with another who is either familiar with an area or situation we are in. We might ask another, “Do you know how to get there?” and they might respond, “I know this area LIKE THE PALM OF MY HAND.”

The PALMS OF OUR HANDS are ever before us. It is a good picture for that which is most familiar to us. As we pick up things and do various tasks, the PALMS OF OUR HANDS are right in front of us. We see them every day.

Note the following description God gave for His familiarity with His people Israel.
“(15) Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you. (16) Behold, I HAVE ENGRAVED YOU ON THE PALMS OF MY HANDS; your walls are continually before me.” ( Isaiah 49:15-16 ESV)

Pictured here was a description of a mother’s love and the declaration of God’s perfect love that would never forget His people. They are engraved on the PALMS OF HIS HANDS and therefore are ever before Him.

Perhaps when we have something to remember and have no paper on which to write it, we will make a note on the PALM OF OUR HAND. (Please note I am not referring to notes for cheating.) Unlike a slip of paper, our hand will not fall out of our pocket. Nor do we have to grip it tightly to keep this note from slipping away. Aren’t we encouraged by the fact God always remembers those who are His?

Paul encouraged regarding God’s familiarity when he wrote…
“But God’s firm foundation stands, bearing this seal: ‘THE LORD KNOWS THOSE WHO ARE HIS,’ and, ‘Let everyone who names the name of the Lord depart from iniquity.’” ( 2 Timothy 2:19 ESV)

The Lord knows! He is familiar! We are not strangers to Him! Though others might forget, He will not! May we ever remain His!

Have a great day KNOWING WE ARE INTIMATELY KNOWN BY GOD!
