ENTERTAINING!
Many like to HOST gatherings in their home. They enjoy selecting and sending out the invitations. They love planning the menu and decorating for the occasion. And those gatherings may all be well attended because they have become known to be a wonderful HOST.
Now, the purpose for HOSTING such gatherings may vary. Time spent with friends in this way is very enjoyable because of interests shared. However, some gatherings are HOSTED for the purpose of impressing others in order to gain (or retain) a good standing in society or a higher ranking in the corporate world.
How much consideration do we give regarding what we choose to HOST in our life? To what do we open the door of our heart and invite in? For what do we spread a table to take what we have prepared?
Note a charge God made through His prophet Isaiah.
“(11) But you who forsake the LORD, who forget my holy mountain, who SET A TABLE FOR FORTUNE and FILL CUPS OF WINE FOR DESTINY, (12) I will destine you to the sword, and all of you shall bow down to the slaughter, because, when I called, you did not answer; when I spoke, you did not listen, but you did what was evil in my eyes and chose what I did not delight in.” ( Isaiah 65:11-12 ESV)
“Fortune” and “Destiny” were apparently foreign gods to whom some of God’s people had turned rather than to Him. What telling names when we consider the focus of some today. How many people spread their table to entertain this world’s fortunes? Whatever will provide themselves gain, that is what they will HOST and feed in their life. How many people fill the cups of those who will help them get ahead in life as they work toward their own desired destiny of worldly successes?
We need to be HOST to that in which God delights! Our ears need to be open to Him and His Will. It is in God we are to seek our highest fortune ( Matthew 6:20) and most glorious destiny. ( 1 Peter 1:4) If this is not our aim, then like those to whom Isaiah spoke, the destiny God will bring about will be destruction.
Let us guard against being so sidetracked by the things of this world that we play HOST to the wrong party. HOSTING the desires of God in our life now will provide us the opportunity for eternal celebration to come.
Have a great day MAINTAINING A STANDING INVITATION TO GOD’S DESIRES!
