Not Gonna Do It!

Stubbornness can create some real challenges. Sometimes one cannot be encouraged to do what is right because of a stubborn will that refuses to give in. Progress is often slowed by stubbornness to accept new ideas or needed change. Stubbornness also causes some to be unable to admit when they have been wrong. However, there is a power in stubbornness which may perhaps work to our advantage and the advantage of others when it is associated with the right thing.

Paul exhorted…
“Therefore let us not pass judgment on one another any longer, but rather DECIDE NEVER TO PUT A STUMBLING BLOCK OR HINDRANCE IN THE WAY OF A BROTHER.” ( Romans 14:13 ESV)

The context in which Paul was writing dealt with quarreling over opinions or disputable matters ( Romans 14:1) and the relationship between weak and strong brethren. The impact our actions have on one another is to be given serious consideration. The stubborn resolve Paul urged was that of DECIDING TO NEVER place anything in the way of a brother that would either cause them to stumble or hinder their spiritual progress. This needs to be our FIRM DECISION as we value one another within the Body of Christ, the church. The world throws enough stumbling blocks our way, why should we do it to one another? Let us stubbornly make up our mind that we are “not gonna do it!” It is to be the conclusion we have drawn with respect to how we relate to one another.

God takes a very serious view toward those who cause others to stumble. (note Matthew 18:6) Instead, may we always strive to edify (build up) and encourage one another toward greater faith and a resolve to live according to God’s desires rather than pushing our own. Let us DECIDE to keep leading in the right path and help remove the obstacles that might be there for those who follow.

Have a great day HELPING OTHERS IN THE WAY OF RIGHTEOUSNESS!
