A Single Vote
Political signs have been popping up in yards and our mail in ballots came in today’s mail for our upcoming primary election. This election will narrow the fields for the general election to take place in November. I enjoy living in a democracy. To have a voice in what goes on is both a privilege and responsibility. However, things don’t always turn out the way I vote. Not everyone shares the same desires and values I do. Though voters in our country are encouraged that every single vote counts, I sometimes wonder if my vote has really made a difference. Not all the individuals I vote for get elected nor do all the issues I want get passed. All I get is one vote and whether it is the decisive vote or not, at least the opportunity to voice my opinion is made.
Though our country is set up as a democracy, I must remember the kingdom of God is a monarchy and Christ is the authority on the throne. He has not given us a vote, but would have us understand He is to be viewed as sovereign and the purposes of God stand. ( Proverbs 19:21) Nevertheless, we could live under the authority of no better monarch than Jesus.
As we have been called out of the world and into the kingdom of Christ, chosen in Him to dwell in a kingdom that transcends this world, we need to consider the kind of citizens we are to strive to be. We should also be encouraged that in Him we can find a secure position.
Peter exhorted…
“(10) Therefore, brothers, be all the more DILIGENT TO MAKE YOUR CALLING AND ELECTION SURE, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall. (11) For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” ( 2 Peter 1:10-11 ESV)
It is not the world, but rather the Lord Who decides our place in His kingdom. Regardless of the what the world might think of us ( Luke 6:26), it is GOD’S VOTE THAT COUNTS ( Romans 8:31), and for that we can be eternally thankful. No matter what the view of the world might be, GOD’S VOTE IS THE ONE VOTE THAT MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE FOR US. It is HIS ELECTION that ensures the victory. If we are in Christ, we are living in the ELECTED REALM of salvation.
Have a great day KNOWING THE VOTE THAT COUNTS!
Carl
