Truly Believing!
There is much we may believe. However, how much do we believe it? Are some of the things we believe a “mere” hope or are they a “certain” expectation? The Hebrew writer defined faith as “THE ASSURANCE of things hoped for, THE CONVICTION of things not seen.” ( Hebrews 11:1 ESV) Do we have a faith in God that prompts us to believe in such a way? Someone has said, “We believe in a thing when we are prepared to act as if it were true.” [source: “sentence sermons”] Does this mark the faith we possess?
In that great chapter of heroes of faith, the Hebrew writer noted the faith of Abraham as follows:
“(17) By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises WAS IN THE ACT OF OFFERING up his only son, (18) of whom it was said, ‘Through Isaac shall your offspring be named.’ (19) HE CONSIDERED THAT GOD WAS ABLE EVEN TO RAISE HIM FROM THE DEAD, from which, figuratively speaking, he did receive him back.” ( Hebrews 11:17-19 ESV)
How do we know Abraham believed? Because HIS ACTIONS clearly revealed he did. His FAITH and WORKS went hand in hand ( James 2:26) and because he truly believed, it was “counted to him as righteousness.” ( Genesis 15:6; Romans 4:3; Galatians 3:6; James 2:23 ESV) We might admit God’s request must have been confusing to Abraham. Nevertheless, he was willing to submit and obey the command.
How much do we believe God? To truly believe is to ACT and LIVE in a manner that reveals we know God will be true to what He has promised and revealed. May such faith mark our life that we can also be counted among those who are in God’s great “Hall Of Faith!”
Have a great day EXPERIENCING FAITH WORKS!
