Properly Impressed

Sometimes when an individual talks about things they have done, someone who may not be impressed responds, “BEEN THERE! DONE THAT!” Many may boast of the things they have done with a spirit of being unimpressed with others, but how does such relate to our view of God?

God (as He revealed Himself to Moses) is the great “I AM!” ( Exodus 3:14-15) That Name is an expression of God simply being; a reference to His existence without any connection to time of beginning or end. God was, is, and will be. He is eternal. He is the One who has seen all and directed and brought into existence all creation. Therefore “I AM” is indicative of God’s eternal essence as well as His Sovereignty over all creation.

To some who are caught up in their own selves God could say…
“(4) WHERE WERE YOU WHEN I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding. (5)Who determined its measurements -- surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? (6) On what were its bases sunk, or who laid its cornerstone, … (12) HAVE YOU commanded the morning since your days began, and caused the dawn to know its place,…. (16) HAVE YOU entered into the springs of the sea, or walked in the recesses of the deep?” ( Job 38:4-6, 12, and 16 ESV)

I encourage you to read Job 38-39 and allow God to bring a proper perspective regarding self and life. God is the only One who seems to truly be in a position to boast, “BEEN THERE! DONE THAT!” In view of “I AM” we, like Moses, should humbly ask, “Who am I….” ( Exodus 3:11) David humbly asked it as well. ( 1 Chronicles 29:14-16) David also wondered regarding God’s mindfulness of man. ( Psalm 8:3-4; Psalm 144:3-4] Nevertheless, God is very much aware of us and all the situations of our life. (i.e. Matthew 10:29-31; 1 Peter 5:7)

“Who am I” in view of the great “I AM”? Paul directed the focus of the Corinthians to the fact there is “one God, the Father, FROM WHOM ARE ALL THINGS AND FOR WHOM WE EXIST,….” ( 1 Corinthians 8:6 ESV) Because He exists we exist and are to exist for Him. Like Moses we should be encouraged that God has chosen us to carry out His Will. Also, like David, be encouraged we have something to give because God has richly blessed us. Be encouraged also that our eternal Father is ever mindful of our life. We are significant to Him!

God has “BEEN THERE! DONE THAT!” and is able to bring about complete salvation for us. May we humble ourselves before Him while bearing in mind His Sovereignty and being encouraged by the fact God truly does care.

Have a great day ACKNOWLEDGING WE ARE BECAUSE HE IS!
Carl
