In Over Our Head!

Getting into water over our head may not alarm us too much if we know how to swim. However, how long can we tread water? We may be able to keep our head above water for a while, but eventually we must recognize the need for help.

Note how David described the experience of feeling OVERWHELMED.
“(1) Save me, O God! For THE WATERS HAVE COME UP TO MY NECK. (2) I SINK IN DEEP MIRE, where THERE IS NO FOOTHOLD; I have COME INTO DEEP WATERS, and THE FLOOD SWEEPS OVER ME. (3) I AM WEARY with my crying out; my throat is parched. MY EYES GROW DIM with waiting for my God.” ( Psalm 69:1-3)

Such can become the picture of trying to make it on our own. We may find ourselves over our head with regard to having taken on too much work, procrastinated to the extent we are overwhelmed by tasks, accumulated debt, or other varying challenges of life. In the midst of any of this we may find our attitude, focus, and even faith beginning to drown. Regardless of whether such circumstances are self-caused or not, the source of help we need is still the same. Perhaps it is good for us to feel OVERWHELMED from time to time to remind us we are not to try to make it on our own.

David began his cry with a focus toward God as he said, “Save me, O God!” (vs.1a) He went on to declare…
“(13) But as for me, MY PRAYER IS TO YOU, O LORD. At an acceptable time, O God, in the abundance of your steadfast love ANSWER ME IN YOUR SAVING FAITHFULNESS. (14) Deliver me from sinking in the mire; let me be delivered from my enemies and from the deep waters. (15) Let not the flood sweep over me, or the deep swallow me up, or the pit close its mouth over me.” ( Psalm 69:13-15)

As David faced his varying challenges of life He knew God was the One to look to for rescue. He PRAYED TO GOD, TRUSTING HIM to answer according to His timing. We may not always get the quick fix we desire, but God can and will sustain and lead us through even the challenges we have created for ourselves. May we continue to SEEK HIS HELP as we strive to live in accordance with His Will.

Have a great day TRUSTING GOD AS OUR LIFEGUARD!
