Heart Healthy!
There are many things which may ail people in this world. Physical afflictions of varying degrees of severity are experienced and usually appropriate treatment is sought out. However, in the midst of all this there is spiritual sickness that is often ignored. For a long time I have appreciated John’s hope for Gaius that his health would go well as it went well with his soul. ( 3 John 2) John placed the emphasis first on Gaius’ spiritual condition and secondarily on his physical. There is a more devastating HEART CONDITION than that of the flesh which needs to be continually monitored. When the physical heart gives out there is the loss of life, but the loss is of an eternal nature when it is the spiritual HEART CONDITION that has given out.
This morning I was struck by the following statement from the psalmist David.
“The afflicted shall eat and be satisfied; those who seek him shall praise the LORD. MAY YOUR HEARTS LIVE FOREVER!” ( Psalm 22:26 ESV)
Along with a picture of eating and being satisfied is the mention of the heart living forever. There is a lot of attention today focused on eating heart healthy. The same should be considered spiritually. It is of eternal consequence to continually focus on a right relationship with our Lord.
Jesus stated…
“I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone EATS OF THIS BREAD, HE WILL LIVE FOREVER. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.” ( John 6:51 ESV)
How much are we focused on being partakers of the life of Christ? Are we continually seeking to take into our life that which will sustain a healthy HEART CONDITION before God? Though this world tends to be a powerful trend setter, we need to allow God to be our heart’s PACEMAKER. Our affections, aspirations, cravings, desires, hopes, longings, etc.; all need to be linked to His Will. Then, regardless of what happens to the body, through maintaining proper concern for our spiritual health we will be CONDITIONED for the eternal life we have been promised in Christ.
Have a great day SUSTAINED BY A HEART THAT WON’T QUIT!
