Earnest With What?
When God’s ways are ignored things can really get mixed up and in a mess. How much do we see occur in this world that causes us to shake our heads in wonder? Someone has noted: “Many wise words are spoken in jest, but they don’t compare with the number of foolish words spoken in earnest.” [source: “1600 Squibs And Quips”, compiled by E. C. McKenzie] Foolish words spoken in earnest! Are we amazed at the ideas some people accept and validate as WISDOM when in fact they are foolishness?
Looking at life Solomon observed…
“(5) There is an evil that I have seen under the sun, as it were an error proceeding from the ruler: (6) FOLLY IS SET IN MANY HIGH PLACES, and the rich sit in a low place.” ( Ecclesiastes 10:5-6 ESV)
So many times that which is of real value (according to God’s standards) is set aside to accept what is actually folly. We see this again and again especially as it relates to moral issues in our society. Some are so set on rejecting God’s principles for life that almost any idea that has Christians or Christian values associated with it is quickly rejected. There is even cringing at the thought of conservatives in public office. I almost chuckle (except for the reality it is not really funny) when I read of policies set in place that were suggested by Christians in the past, but were only finally adopted after other efforts were found to not be very successful. One case in point is the now recognized WISDOM in urging abstinence among teens. It is God’s Way with His ultimate idea of marriage in mind. However, those who are determined to accept the foolishness of worldly wisdom -- since such are lacking in a love for the truth -- God allows them to be deluded so that they believe what is false. (note 2 Thessalonians 2:11-12)
I saw a bumper sticker recently that read “Liberal, And Proud Of It.” I suppose some could display a similar expression regarding being a conservative as well. However, it is human pride (regardless of whether one considers themselves conservative, liberal or somewhere in between) which often creates the difficulty in being able to acknowledge and accept the true WISDOM of God.
Referring to God, the Psalmist pointed out…
“HE LEADS THE HUMBLE IN WHAT IS RIGHT, AND TEACHES THE HUMBLE HIS WAY.” ( Psalm 25:9 ESV)
May we retain a humility that allows us to accept God’s Way as we continue to stand firm in the WISDOM He provides!
Have a great day WISELY SUBMITTING TO THE WISDOM FROM ABOVE!
