Chin Up!

There is so much which can get us down in this life if we allow it to do so. We see things going on around us we acknowledge as not being right, and though we try to stand for that which is, the world continues to do its own thing and go its own way. People become critical of our faith and values and also make statements that could discourage us. Sometimes we may even feel threatened while we strive to continue to remain faithful to God and His Will. However, remember we are not the only ones who have faced such challenges.

David was a man of God who faced many challenges and foes in his life. As we read through the Psalms we gain insight into his perspective that kept him moving forward in his faith in God. I was recently encouraged in my morning reading as I read the following words of David.

David wrote…
“(1) O LORD, how many are my foes! Many are rising against me; (2) many are saying of my soul, there is no salvation for him in God. Selah (3) BUT YOU, O LORD, ARE A SHIELD ABOUT ME, MY GLORY, AND THE LIFTER OF MY HEAD.” ( Psalm 3:1-3 ESV)

Do we continually look to God as our protector, knowing that His hand is not too short to save, nor His ear too dull to hear our prayers? ( Isaiah 59:1) Also, though there are many glorious aspects of life here, our greatest glory is that of our eternal connection with Him. He is our glory and the One Who can LIFT OUR HEAD UP, putting a joyful smile on our face in spite of what else may be going on around us. God is still God and He ultimately remains in control.

Further into the Psalms David wrote…
“(19) Blessed be the Lord who DAILY BEARS US UP; GOD IS OUR SALVATION. (20) Our GOD IS A GOD OF SALVATION, and to GOD, the Lord, BELONG DELIVERANCES from death.” ( Psalm 68:19-20 ESV)

May we, like David, continually keep our eyes on God. That is an UPWARD GAZE! When we find ourselves beginning to look down, let us think of His great love and power for us, letting Him LIFT OUR HEAD UP as we remember the glorious eternal future He is bring us victoriously toward.
