A Real Time Saver!
In this world of many modern conveniences we have developed a great appreciation for things which save us time. Meals are prepared quicker, communication is faster, travel takes less time, many daily tasks are completed in a snap, etc. Perhaps along with this appreciation for time savers grows a sense of frustration when we feel we have wasted time or something has taken us longer than we desired. However, there is one area of life that has troubled mankind for ages where it is not modern technology that saves time, but rather a little bit of FORETHOUGHT.
Someone has made the following simple observation: “One minute of keeping your mouth shut is worth an hour of explanations.” [source: sentence sermons]
Solomon advised…
“Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue KEEPS HIMSELF OUT OF TROUBLE.” ( Proverbs 21:23 ESV)
Simply stopping for even A MOMENT TO THINK before we speak can save a lot of time later from being filled with regret or explanations trying to dig ourselves back out.
James exhorted…
“Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person BE QUICK TO HEAR, SLOW TO SPEAK, slow to anger;” ( James 1:19 ESV)
A golden MOMENT OF SILENCE can save a wealth of time spent in retraction and repair. Let us give a MOMENT OF THOUGHT to the advice of Solomon and James so that we may be spared much trouble later.
Have a great day TAKING TIME TO THINK FIRST, SPEAK SECOND!
