Smarter Than Me!
Many don’t like to be told what they ought to do. When advise is offered they are sometimes offended feeling others must think they don’t know how to do anything themselves. However, how many times have reminders of things we already know been helpful? We place ourselves in a dangerous position when we refuse to acknowledge the need for counsel (note Proverbs 11:14; 15:22), especially when it comes to the COUNSEL OF GOD. Someone has stated, “Some men will be surprised someday to find that God knows more than they do and that He says what He means and means what He says.” [source: list of “sentence sermons”]
Paul, knowing that false teachers would arise from among those in Ephesus, exhorted the elders there to keep close watch of the flock over which they were overseers. ( Acts 20:28-30) These individuals who would reject the truth would twist it to draw away others after them. What was necessary was to hold to what had already been revealed.
Reminding the Ephesian elders of His teaching while with them, Paul stated…
“(26) Therefore I testify to you this day that I am innocent of the blood of all of you, (27) for I did not shrink from declaring to you THE WHOLE COUNSEL OF GOD.” ( Acts 20:26-27 ESV)
That is what we ought to seek; not merely the part of GOD’S COUNSEL that suits our ears, but ALL OF IT. He has said what He means and means what He has said. In His perfect wisdom God has revealed the counsel we need for living life now and for being prepared to spend an eternity with Him. Let us not shrink away from the COUNSEL OF GOD, but rather thank Him for EVERY BIT OF IT that He has revealed.
Have a great day ACCEPTING ALL THE GUIDANCE GOD PROVIDES!
