Knowing Where We Now Stand!
In the struggle with sin, even Christians at times wonder regarding their salvation. Though we must be mindful of not viewing the blessing of God’s grace as license for sin ( Romans 6:1; Jude 4), as we walk in Christ do we question the power of His blood to deal adequately with our sins? John wrote encouraging Christians to realize they could know they had eternal life. ( 1 John 5:13) To really know we are saved provides powerful encouragement to help us persevere as we go through the varying experiences of this life.
Paul very explicitly stated…
“THERE IS THEREFORE NOW NO CONDEMNATION FOR THOSE WHO ARE IN CHRIST JESUS.” ( Romans 8:1 ESV)
What a wonderful verse! What an encouraging verse! It is a truth intended to remove the fear of God’s judgment. Read it again.
“THERE IS THEREFORE NOW NO CONDEMNATION FOR THOSE WHO ARE IN CHRIST JESUS.”
As we consider the significance of what this verse reveals, what is one of the most encouraging words in it? To me the most encouraging word is “NOW”! The Greek is “nun” which is a word used of time, representing the immediate present. Living in Christ NOW we are PRESENTLY removed from under God’s condemnation. The blood of Christ has cleansed us completely and we are NOW a new creation ( 2 Corinthians 5:17) in Him.
Those who refuse to believe in Jesus are not merely condemned at some later time. According to our Lord’s own words they stand condemned already. (read John 3:18) For one to live outside of Christ, that is PRESENTLY the verdict. That is why we ought to be reaching out to others to draw them to Christ that they too may become a child of God by putting on Christ in baptism. ( Galatians 3:26-27)
In Christ Jesus we are NOW PRESENTLY in a sphere of safety, provided we remain in Him. Therefore, let us remain standing in Him NOW so that any fear of future judgment may be removed. ( 1 John 4:17-18) PRESENTLY living and walking in Christ we can have this confidence.
Have a great day RELISHING THE PRESENT RELATIONSHIP WITH CHRIST!
